Designer Pam Goodman at the wild west show!

The Legendary Hitchhikers look forward to seeing the collection from artist Pam Goodman at our next show.  Pam is a Denver native of 63 years and an amazing designer.  For her, jewelry making started by accident when she went to Ornamental Beads to find materials for restringing an old jade necklace.

“That’s when I fell in love with the variety and creative potential of all the many stones.  It’s exciting and so pleasurable to be able to create beautiful objects and I feel lucky to have discovered this skill.”

She just likes stones; their various colors, inherent designs, shapes, and textures.  Pam enjoys wearing, gifting, and selling pieces that are parts of our earth.  In fact, many stones appear themselves to be miniature planets.  She says there’s also a meditative quality in touching stone beads and making jewelry.   She loves showing new people what she has made.

PG-TurquoiseNecklace

She especially likes like designing earrings and necklaces with copper and silver.  The chains for the necklaces are made with liquid silver beads and are very light.   The stones are turquoise and amber, and white druzzy stones.  Pam’s free-form stones have a special feel – a rough, earthen look.  Please come see more of the collection on April 11th!

Members of Renegade will be joining us for the wild west show!

Don Carlton (vocals and guitar) and Mike Witt (vocals and bass) of Renegade will be joining the Legendary Hitchhikers at our next show, bringing some “country-magic” to the venue.  Our own Norris Schleeter and Dave Drynan have both been members of Renegade in years past, so it’ll be a reunion show of sorts.

We’ll be testing out the Tom Petty material on a country crowd, but we’ve also got a lot of new tunes in store for the masses, including Foo Fighters, The Cars, more Steeley Dan, among others.  Renegade will be knocking out some classic country tunes like Boot Scootin’ Boogie and Pretty Good at Drinking Beer.  Please come on out for the fun!

Come see Beadwork by Connie at the Hitchhikers next show!

The Legendary Hitchhikers are proud to welcome Beadwork by Connie at our wild west show on April 11th, 2104.   Connie Ortega is of authentic Native American descent (Jicarilla Apache).   She combines ancient art traditions with contemporary designs to create unique designs.   Each piece also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

DragonFlyPin-Connie

Connie has immersed herself in beadwork for over a decade, fashioning jewelry, hair ornaments, hatbands, the stems of celebratory goblets and fancy salt and pepper shakers, one-of-kind wine and champagne glasses, beaded baby shoes, and even in colorful glass rosaries.

PeyoteStitch-ConnieThis intricate beadwork is inspired by a vanishing native tradition.  It’s a painstaking and time-consuming art that requires intense patience and dedication.   Many pieces have been developed for individuals, to become heirloom keepsakes.   She utilizes authentic , traditional stitches and designs she was taught as a child.  Connie incorporates the old and the new, utilizing contemporary colors to make exquisite new creations while keeping the ancient art alive.

Connie’s work is displayed in various museums and galleries.  She has also been featured on the back cover of Bead Unique Magazine (winter, 2009) and in a special issue of Bead Style Magazine (2008).  Her own gallery, Custom Beadwork by Connie, is located at the Eagle’s Nest, on the rim of the Royal Gorge.  She also shows here beadwork at powwows, fine art shows and Indian markets.
